Turn Your iPad Into a Document Camera With Osmo

I want to show exactly how I use this relatively inexpensive device to turn my iPad into a document camera. To do this, you’re going to need the Osmo base and reflector. In the video, I’m using the Osmo white board but I don’t think that is necessary if you just want a document camera. The video below shows how to do this in Zoom but the same principal applies for other apps. Google Meet has a huge lag in the video. This would make it less than idea for demonstrating movements. Once you’ve got the document camera set up you can use it to write on the white board, worksheets, do fine motor activities, etc! Don’t forget to download the Osmo Projector on the App Store! See the quick video how-to below!

The cool thing about using this strategy is that it makes it possible for students to do the same thing. If the family has an iPad, they can use this relatively inexpensive device to share what a bird eye view of what they are doing. Just make sure to get an email connected to the iPad so you can invite it to the meeting! Looking to collaborate more with teachers in distance learning? That’s about it. Please note that they make Osmo for Fire tablet but you CANNOT use the projector app with it. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below! Have you used the Osmo as a document camera in your telehealth practice? What do you like or not like about it? What other topics or tools for telehealth would you like to read about?

Save Money and 3D Print Your Own!

If you’ve got a 3D printer, you can print your own stand for free! You will need a 1 inch square mirror available at most craft stores. Click here for the design by C_Dustin_B on Thingiverse! This is not affliated with Osmo in any way and wouldn’t enable you to use the Osmo app activities.
